LP Stitch: Kaffe Fassett Fabric

Ever since my mom gave me a copy of Glorious Knits when I was 10, I have been obsessed with crafter/designer Kaffe Fassett. As my mom says, “the man has an amazing eye for color.” More recently, he has released a series of fabrics (all of them quite glorious), which were used to make this pattern. I was inspired by interior designers who used paint swatches to simply decorate a room with color.

Since most of my LP Stitch projects are on plastic canvas, I’ve been trying to get rid of my extra embroidery hoops. Because I absolutely despise matting (prepping the canvas for framing), I decided to just use the hoop as the frame. If I need another hoop, it’ll cost just a few bucks to replace.

While I consider my skills with using color in design to be sub-par, I can definitely recognize the talent in others. I played around with the layout of the four swatches – each different color schemes for the same flower pattern. Sure enough, there was a lot of overlap between the thread colors that I used for each of them – even though you wouldn’t necessarily think so to look at them.

I’m not sure whether my next project will be another framed hoop “sketch” or if I’ll return back to LP’s and the like. Stay tuned!
